Regionalized Rubrics In Austria

Now also Austria has regionalized local rubrics for OE1 to OE9 that are available on all transmitters within the transmitter-group OE-ALL. For Skyper-pagers those rubrics would be propagated via the rubric-lists on transmitters in the group OE-ALL and they could be subscribed via the menu of the skyper. For all other pagers, the corresponding RIC would be 101x where x is the same as OEx (for example: 1011 = OE1).

If you would like to fill those rubrics with content, please contact us via ticket-system (https://support.hampager.de/).

Austria now also with APRS-WX

Since the weekend also Austria gets APRS-WX-messages in rubric APRS-WX (RIC 1080).

The script written by Kim, DG9VH, fetches the data of some APRS-weather stations (e.g. for the Tyrol/OE7 OE7 OE7XEI-13, OE7MFI-13, OE7SBH-WX, DW2619 und DW5225) and transmits it into fitting rubrics.

For OE:

  • aprswx-oe-oe1 → oe-oe1
  • aprswx-oe-oe2 → oe-oe2
  • […]
  • aprswx-oe-oe8→ oe-oe8
  • aprswx-oe-oe9→ oe-oe9

The transmitters are linked to the fitting OE-label (all OE7-transmitters have TX group oe-oe7 as well as „all“ and „all-oe“).

As the alphapoc pager doesn’t support rubrics (like the skyper pager), the data is transmitted via a RIC address, for weather RIC 1080. If you add this RIC to your pager, you will receive the weather in your region (Bundesland).

The messages are handled like private messages and so they fill up the memory/display. A possible solution: If you change the RIC type from „private“ to „group“, the latest message will be kept and the other (same) messages will be overwritten.

To change the type of a RIC, you have to use the programming software. Please be aware, that only the RIC addresses 5 to 8 can be changed from „private“ to „group“.

You can use this opportunity to change the tone for the RIC to „disable“, if you prefer no sound on receiving weather messages.

Any suggestions of WX-stations please via ticket-system (https://support.hampager.de/).

We need the station-id (callsign or WX-id) and the QTH as name of the city.

Time Synchronization with Local Time

With today's update the DAPNET Cores support transmission of time synchronization packets with local time. UTC time is transmitted in parallel. Users with Skyper pagers will sync to UTC time as is. This is transmitted every even minute. Also time sync for Swissphone and AlphaPoc pagers is tranmitted every even minute. Local time is send every odd minute in between for AlphaPoc and Swissphone pagers.

With this update also RICs/CAPcodes for time synchronization changed. The configuration is as follows:

  • RIC 200: Time in UTC for Swissphone pager
  • RIC 208: Local time for Swissphone pager
  • RIC 216: Time in UTC for AlphaPoc pager
  • RIC 224: Local time for AlphaPoc pager

The configuration of pagers has to be changed accordingly. Users with Swissphone pagers can use switching profiles to make the choice of time zone selectable via menu.

Coverage Maps rendering status

In the last month, DAPNET has grown all over the planet. When we designed the network, we didn't really think that this would happen one day. So besides of beeing quite happy about that fact, it also revealed the problem of generating DAPNET transmitter coverage maps for sites all over the world. The map data is predicted using state of the atr science published in this paper: R. Wilke, H. Munz, D. Heberling: "Radio Coverage Prediction for a Wireless IP-based Network in Central Europe". Besides of the transmitter meta data like antenne height and power, the algorithm needs a Digital Elevation Model (DEM). We use the data from https://earthdata.nasa.gov/ and in particular the ASTER2 mission DEM data. I have downloaded already the area of Europe, but as there are now transmitters on other contients, the worldwide coverange iof DEM data is needed. The download and pre-processing of the data has already been starte. but it will take some times be be finished (about 68 GB in compressed version). Afterwards, the prediction process will be executed again to calculate the missing maps for transmitters outside europe.
